Ursula Maria (Spors) Calvert - Champaign/Urbana News-Gazette
Mar 11, 2019She peacefully left this world at her residence in Villa Grove at 7:33 p.m. on Sunday (March 3, 2019).Ursula was born on Oct. 21, 1930, to Adalbert P. Spors and Maria Lietz Spors in Allenstein, East Prussia (providence of Germany). In her early years, she attended the Liceum of The English Lady, Aschaffenburg, Germany, where she learned design, cooking skills and English. After surviving the invasion of the Russians during World War II, she immigrated to the United States in 1951 with her father and younger sister, Hilli. She proudly graduated in 1956 from St. Anthony School of Nursing in Terre Haute, Ind.While working as a nurse, Ursula met her loving husband, William C. Calvert. They married in 1959 in Terre Haute and settled in Villa Grove because there was a Catholic church and the town was within 30 miles of USI Chemical in Tuscola.She was the beloved mother of Christina Calvert (Michelle Jensen), William (Vickie) and Martin (Donna), proud grandmother of Maria Calvert, cherished sister to Colonel Hiltrud G. Spors-Houle (USAF, Ret.), and loving aunt to Patricia Krug (Edward). Ursula was predeceased by her parents, Adalbert and Maria; her husband of 47 years, Bill; her brother-in-law, Norman Houle; her sister-in-law, Ursula F. Schmidt; and several aunts and uncles.Ursula lived a full life as a wonderful mother, homemaker and parishioner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A few of her roles at Sacred Heart included being a member of Altar-Rosary Society, choir member, a quilter for decades, and she was involved in establishing the first parish council, in which she participated for five years.She loved to sing in her beautiful soprano voice, and kept an immaculate house and yard. Some of her fondest memories involved her nine-year participation in the Villa Grove Community Theatre. Most of all, she loved her family and instilled in her children strong values that have served them well. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.Our fam...
